SAVUTH CHAN (Woody): Owner, Manager and Chef
Triumph Over Adversity

SAVUTH CHAN, lovingly known as Woody, is an individual who has triumphed over immense adversity throughout his life. Born into a family of eight children, including an older stepbrother, Woody's early years were marked by the turmoil of the communist invasion of Cambodia during the Vietnam War that devastated his country and killed his parents. Forced to endure the hardships of labor camps as a child, Woody exhibited remarkable leadership qualities and assumed the responsibility of managing his family's survival during this tumultuous period.
After enduring the trials of life in a Thai refugee camp, Woody and his brothers and sisters embarked on a new life in the United States. It was during this challenging transition that their lives would be forever changed by the compassionate intervention of Richard Buehler, and English teacher who not only taught Woody and his siblings the language but also became an exceptional father figure to them.
As a young man, Woody immersed himself in the vibrant culinary scene of New York City. Working in various renown venues and under the guidance of acclaimed chefs, such as Anito Lo, he refined his skills and developed a deep love for the art of cooking. Woody's dedication and commitment to his craft allowed him to thrive in this dynamic environment, continuously expanding his culinary repertoire.
Woody's culinary talents soon caught the attention of the renowned Kennedy Center, a cultural hub in Washington, D.C. There, he assumed the pivotal role of managing the production of meals for the center's patrons during grand celebrations honoring historical icons of American society. Woody's expertise and meticulous attention to detail ensured that each meal served at the Kennedy Center was a culinary masterpiece, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

Recently, Woody made a significant move to Rincon, Puerto Rico, with his family. Drawing inspiration from the local ingredients and the rich culinary heritage of the region, he embarked on a new chapter in his career. Woody's vision led him to purchase and renovate his very own restaurant, aptly named Woody's Place, in Anasco. Through his Asian Fusion menu, Woody invites his guests to indulge in a dining experience that reflects his lifelong dedication to the art of cooking.
